Who We Are…

Most of us look forward to Fridays because it means the weekend is just hours away — no work, no school.  But for 500+ children at Fair Oaks Elementary School, Friday might be a tough day. It could mean they won’t get much to eat for the weekend and will be anxious about where their weekend meals will come from. The BackPack Blessings Ministry is a community outreach program that provides chronically hungry children with food to take home over the weekend by packing backpacks full of nutritious food. The backpacks are packed by volunteers on Thursday evenings and delivered by volunteers every Friday morning. We have partnered with Fair Oaks Elementary School in Marietta, Georgia’s Cobb County School District because 99 percent of the children in this school receive free or reduced lunch. Since the inception of the program, the school has experienced tremendous improvements in test scores, reading levels, classroom participation, and attendance.  The school has also received numerous academic awards since partnering with BackPack Blessings. It is clear that BackPack Blessings is not just a feeding program. We are investing in our future, as the students are our future. Healthy children lead to a healthy economy and environment. Our tag line is…”Hunger does not take the weekends off.”
