What We Believe

Bedrock Beliefs

God – We believe in one almighty God who is the creator and ruler of the universe. He exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All are distinct, but equal.

The Son – We believe that Jesus Christ was God’s only son, who lived a sinless life and died for the sins of the world. After three days, He rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven to be at the right hand of the Father. Salvation is offered by the grace of God to all who accept Jesus Christ as their savior and place their faith in Him.

The Bible – We believe that the Bible is the true Word of God, written by humans with direction from the Holy Spirit.

The Christian Life – As Christians, we stop living lives for ourselves on our own terms and begin living for the glory of God, guided and empowered by His Holy Spirit. Our goal is to be transformed through prayer and obedience to the Word so that we can live in the image of Christ.

The Church – We believe that the Church is the body of Christ. We are compelled to love like Christ so that our lives, our community and our world are transformed for the glory of God.

Baptism – Baptism symbolizes our rejection of sin and the start of a new life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. It is a public demonstration of our acceptance of faith in Jesus Christ.

FAQs

Why should I join Mt. Bethel Church if I’m already a member of Mt. Bethel UMC?

Mt. Bethel Church is no longer a part of the United Methodist Church. The UMC will not transfer your membership automatically. Additionally, we would like you to prayerfully consider committing to membership in the newly independent Mt. Bethel Church.

What happens to my existing Mt. Bethel UMC membership?

If you commit to membership in Mt. Bethel Church, we will notify the North Georgia Conference of the UMC of your decision to transfer your membership.

If you choose not to commit to membership in Mt. Bethel Church, the UMC is managing a process that will address your membership.

How does my family need to engage with the membership process? Do we each need to sign up?

Mt. Bethel will recognize your family in membership. For example, if you are a married couple, or a married couple with young children, only one person from your household needs to complete the membership form, but you will need to list all of your family members.

What about our recent Confirmands or students who previously became members through Confirmation?

Mt. Bethel Church will recognize existing Confirmands and students who previously participated in Confirmation for membership. Only one member of a family household needs to fill out the membership form. There is a place to list your family members, including any students or Confirmands. For example, if you are a married couple with one student who previously went through Confirmation, only one of you needs to submit the membership form and you may indicate the name of your student who has been confirmed, and he or she will also be recognized as a member.

How do I join Mt. Bethel Church?

We are excited to partner in faith with you and ask that you pray and carefully consider your commitment. If you are ready now, please read and acknowledge our Membership Covenant and enter your personal information on our membership form.

  • On Sunday, August 14, at 11am in the Sanctuary, we will offer the first opportunity to profess membership vows in unity with other believers. We’re having a churchwide picnic after the service.
  • Even if you are not ready to commit now, you may go to Belong Here when the time is right, or contact membership@mtbethel.org at any time with questions.
  • If you are not able to attend worship on August 14, but wish to profess membership vows in a future worship service, please fill out our membership form and indicate your preferences. We will have ongoing opportunities to profess membership vows during worship.
Is there a deadline to join Mt. Bethel Church?

Mt. Bethel Church will remain open to anyone who wishes to partner in faith with us. There is no deadline! In fact, we are working on a welcoming, thoughtful process for people to partner with Mt. Bethel Church moving forward, so please stay tuned.
