We Found Our People

My name is Katie Adkisson. My husband, John, and I have been attending Mt. Bethel for over 12 years, and during that time, we have watched our family grow from the two of us to a family of six!

I feel so fortunate that we plugged into a Sunday school class soon after beginning to attend services. I will never forget the first day walking into the Nearlywed/Newlywed Class and immediately bonding with the other couples.

Through studying the Bible, a ton of fellowship, and serving the community as a group, these couples became our “people.” As cheesy as “doing life together” sounds, that is just what we did, and continue to do! With the couples we met in the class, John and I have experienced the highs and lows and everything in between of life. We’ve shared laughs and tears, experienced the shock of new parenting, and comforted one another through loss. We’ve carried one another through burdens that were too immense to carry alone and celebrated life’s victories with each other. To this day, when we need support or advice, the couples in that class are the first we call.

The journey we took as a class leads to what Sunday school means to me. Sunday School is love, support, laughs, tears, advice, service, study, accountability, and the building of friendships that will last a lifetime. We are forever grateful for the couples one step ahead of us, like the Alarcons, that were willing to pour into us and model adult Sunday school for us. John and I are excited to see new beginnings for others with the start of the Love & Marriage Sunday school class!

The Love & Marriage class meet in the academy building, F104, through September 1. Beginning September 8, the class will move to F323. Questions? Spencer Smith or Lindsay Smith.
