The Impact of Youth Choir on My Life

After just graduating from high school and completing my time with Voice of Truth, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on my seven years in this amazing youth choir. So many of my friends, memories, and spiritual highs have been results of deciding to join Voice of Truth in sixth grade. I actually remember that year a lot more vividly than I thought I would. Being the youngest in the choir room was a little intimidating at first, but before I knew it, that room became the place where I felt most accepted. I also joined a Life Group in sixth grade, and a lot of my Life Group girls happened to be in Voice of Truth, too!

I quickly found my group within the choir, and some of these girls have been seven-year members as well. We’ve sung our favorite VOT songs together just for the fun of it, cried on the last nights of many choir tours, woken up a little too early on Sunday mornings to sing in church services, and traveled thousands of miles via tour bus all the way from Myrtle Beach to Niagara Falls and everywhere in between. Although I had my core group of girls in VOT, I also had the privilege of getting to know so many people of all different ages through my involvement in this choir. Everyone in Voice of Truth has their own personality, as I quickly discovered when I reached out to younger and older students (and even tour chaperones)!

Each member is a crucial part of this ever-growing family that we have built through praise, worship, and community. So as I move on from Voice of Truth and begin a new chapter in my life at college, I can confidently say that my experience in VOT has made a huge, positive impact on my life. My faith, my confidence, and my friendships have all grown significantly. I could never really express in words how much this choir means to me. I wish the new generation of VOT members all the best, and I hope you find as much purpose and heart in this choir as I did.
