Who’s in Control?

We all like to be in control of our life. I know I do. And those of us in leadership positions in our homes or church or businesses feel the additional responsibility of trying to be in control of situations and outcomes. When things are going well, it is easy to think that you have got everything “under control” and life is good. But then events and circumstances occur to remind us that we are not in control and never were. What do you do in times like those? What do you do in a time like now with the pandemic and all of the “out-of-control” consequences? You turn your eyes to the One who is in control.
A great example of this is found in 2Chronicles 20 – A vast army had come against Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah and Jerusalem. As Jehoshaphat prayed, he said, “We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” The Lord answered through Jaheziel who said, “This is what the Lord says to you “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours but God’s. … Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.”
The ending of that story showed how God can intercede with seemingly impossible situations. I know that is true not only because of this Bible story but because that happened in my own life as well.
So when we face seemingly impossible situations or situations that are out of our control, let us always remember Who is in control and Jehoshaphat’s simple statement to God, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.”
