How Kindness Can Move

As the Administrative Assistant for Children’s Ministry for nearly 15 years, I have done a lot of different things, but not a lot of hands-on planning for teaching the lessons. I am loving my new role on the media team for KidCity. I get to share the vision for communicating our monthly focus, delve into scripture, and brainstorm on creative ways to share the message.
The theme for February in KidCity is Kindness. There can never be too much kindness, and it is an important lesson to share with our children. We will be looking at examples in the Bible and will even be challenged to show kindness to those who don’t act kind towards us. That’s a tough challenge, even for us big people.
One of the visuals we discussed in our planning was the Domino Effect. Show just a little kindness and it will spread far and wide in ways we could never imagine. It’s a great way to demonstrate the power of kindness, and makes a greater impact than just telling kids to “be nice.”
On my way into work I was listening to the playlist for the month that goes along with the monthly theme. There are a lot of catchy tunes, and it sure made my commute a little brighter. Then some of the lyrics popped out and caught my attention:
The less I trust you, the less I grow
The more you love me, the more I know
I don’t have to be afraid to show all of me, all of me
Where there’s hurting
You show me what healing can do
Where there’s hatred
You show me how kindness can move……
(“Whole Heart” by Brandon Heath)
Kindness can move. It can move a heart. It can move a family. It can move a community and even a nation. Picture the domino effect as kindness spreads through a hopeless heart by hearing about the love of Christ. This is a tangible lesson that sticks and propels us forward.
I am so excited to see how the lessons will impact our children this month.
