Exciting Updates Are Coming to Our High School Ministry!

By Elley Fisk, Director of Student Ministries
As students get older, their time becomes more valuable. Mt. Bethel high school students are encouraged to Gather in worship, Grow as disciples through Life groups and study, and Go to serve in the church and the world. MBSM (Mt Bethel Student Ministries) offers a weekly rhythm of worship, small groups, and serving which helps grow and strengthen faith.
For those who have been around a while, Wednesday night worship and fellowship will look similar, but the name will change. Expect God to do some incredible things in students’ lives. This authentic worship service allows students to connect with God and their peers in a relaxed relevant environment.
High school is tough. Growing up is tough. Figuring out how to walk as a disciple of Jesus Christ while a teenager–that’s tough too. Students sometimes feel like they’re living in a desert or a wasteland. MBSM wants to be the river in their desert. Just as God made a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland in Isaiah, God will create a way for MBSM students. High school life groups will be part of this way. Life Groups will meet after worship on Wednesday nights.
As students grow in their faith, their leadership potential grows! High school students add tremendous value when they serve and when they worship with the church family. High school Students are encouraged to serve at Mt. Bethel in a variety of ways, including helping elementary schoolers at Kid City, assisting middle schoolers, or joining the Welcome Team or Media Team at The Gathering. Students are also encouraged to find an intergenerational worship service, whether it’s the Sanctuary or the Gathering, and worship.
Sunday nights have traditionally been the time for our high school students to meet in Life Groups. Moving toward the fall, students who are in Life Groups they love are encouraged to stay with those groups. However, several weeknight Life Groups are available to choose from so they can continue to participate in sports and extra-curricular activities. Life Group registration will open this summer.
Coffee with Staff
Each Thursday the MBSM staff will take their work off-site to the Starbucks on Woodlawn. Students are encouraged to stop in and have coffee with us, say hi as they come by for coffee with their friends, or just wave from the counter. Whatever they choose to do with this time, we simply want to make sure that they know that we are present and available outside of church building.
A new Confirmation experience for students, 7th-12th grade, and their families is something to look forward to this fall. Confirmation will be a six-session course with a retreat. The sessions will take place Sunday mornings at 11:00am and will be offered twice a year in the fall and spring. The most valuable relationship a student will ever have in their walk with Jesus Christ is with their parents. That’s why the new Confirmation experience asks the parents of students in grades 7, 8, and 9 to attend Confirmation class and the Confirmation retreat with their students. When parents are present with their young students, they experience transformation together. What a blessing! Look for more information about Confirmation this summer. The first class begins August 19!
Our highest priority is to provide an environment where students can experience spiritual transformation, while also partnering with parents to provide support and resources as you guide your students through their spiritual journeys. We hope that you are as excited as we are about what’s to come!
If your student isn’t already involved in a life group, contact us for more information on how to join one! We’ll make sure they get connected to a group.
