Facing the Challenge: Dealing with Grief During the Upcoming Holidays
If you are grieving the death of a loved one and are beginning to wonder how you will deal with the upcoming holidays without the person who died, or perhaps you are looking for a way to escape, you are invited to register for a special “virtual” gathering led by the facilitators of our GriefShare program, Dr. Susan Zonnebelt-Smeenge, licensed clinical psychologist, and Dr. Robert DeVries, pastor and seminary professor (emeritus). They will suggest and discuss a number of ways you can plan for and manage the approaching holidays using them as opportunities to grow but not overwhelm yourself in the process.
This special grief-support meeting will be held online on Saturday, November 7, from 9:30 to 11am. Registration is necessary in order to receive access to the GriefShare DVD “Surviving the Holidays” and to receive the link to the presentation and online discussion. Attendance is open to anyone who is actively grieving or wants to understand more about grief and the holidays. You do not have to be attending GriefShare meetings to come. Susan and Bob will give many helpful tips to help you tackle Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day in a healthy manner. You will also have the opportunity, in the privacy of your own home, to light a candle in memory of your deceased loved one.
Additionally, Dr. Susan Zonnebelt-Smeenge is available to provide grief, loss, and dying psychotherapy or other associated individual and family concerns you might have. Her services are available to anyone from the community. She currently sees clients by means of a secure HIPPA approved website or, if you prefer, by means of a telephone call. You can schedule an appointment or get more information by calling Susan at 616.780.1082.
