We all want our kids to know the stories of Jesus…to learn them and to let them come alive in their hearts and minds. Last Wednesday, our older iPraisers (grades 2-5) presented their spring musical “Parablelooza.” It was full of energy and fun. They sang, and they danced, and they played awesome, crazy, games with the parents in the audience. It was really a blast!

But what I enjoyed most was hearing the kids retelling the parables and reciting the scriptures. They didn’t just listen to someone tell them a Bible story; they memorized it, retold it, sang a song about it, and played a game that made the point stick. Those stories are now written on their hearts.

It’s what is so special about music…the way words, stories, poems, scriptures, etc. become imprinted in our souls. They become a part of us that we never forget.

Congratulations iPraise. You were awesome! Thanks for being such excellent story tellers.

Ms. Suzanne

In Isaiah (43:21), God describes us as “the people I made especially for myself, a people custom made to praise me.” God made us to know him, love him, and serve him- we were made for God and exist for the praise of His glory. Every week the music ministry of Mt. Bethel strives to serve this purpose, whether it’s a stirring hymn of praise or a reflective moment of meditation. Our souls resonate when we fulfill our purpose of praise through worship music! We have a place for every man, woman, and child to join with others in song (sometimes dance and acting, too)!

Well, only about 101 of them were actually spotted. I’m talking about this year’s music week: 101 Dalmatians: Kids! Students from our church and community gathered to do what seems impossible: learn and produce an entire musical in just one week. It took only about 14 hours of actual rehearsal time!

Each day, the kids made a circuit through dance class, choir, drama, yummy lunches and dress rehearsals. They worked hard, played hard and sang beautifully! All that hard work certainly paid off! The performance Friday night was just flawless. The amount of talent on display from our young actors and singers was really amazing.

This past Wednesday, we had 135 kids (ages 4 through 5th grade) turn out for a chance to “try on” iPraise for a week. The kids gathered in the choir room for a brief rehearsal first, singing and dancing and playing games. There was so much energy in that room! Then, we went out to the fields where they ate popsicles, tie-dyed some super cool t-shirts and cooled off on the Slip ‘n’ Slide. It was a lot of fun!

Sunday, the kids turned out again…this time to help lead worship in the sanctuary. With a loft full of smiling faces…and wiggling bodies…it was hard not to be infected with a spirit of joy! The kids sang their hearts out and truly lived out the instruction to “Make a Joyful Noise!”

The registrations for iPraise have been pouring in- if this week’s kick-off was any indication, we’re headed in the right direction. We’re anticipating an exciting year! If you want to be a part of this great group of kids (or know somebody who would), sign up today! We’ll be getting started on August 24 and really want you to be a part of awesome kids singing awesome songs worshiping an awesome God- that’s what iPraise is all about!

This year’s Patriotic experience was nothing short of extraordinary! It was definitely a “God Thing” as the concept of commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11, along with our customary tribute to veterans and soldiers presently serving, “morphed” into the amazing experience that resulted Sunday night!

There was an overflow crowd, with chairs set up in the narthex and the balcony, and the crowd was absolutely enthralled with several standing ovations, clapping, flag waving, and cheers.

The mix of outstanding music presentation and inspiring personal sharing from actors, veterans, and first responders, along with expert technical and visual enhancements, really meshed well and provided for a most moving experience for those that were present. In addition, we were featured on the Fox5 10pm newscast as well as the East Cobb Patch!

The old-fashioned ice cream social was a perfect way to cap off the evening. Everyone had the chance to talk with our honored guests, catch up with friends, and enjoy traditional American fare.

Thanks to all whose work and attendance made this a celebration to remember.

Blessings…

Mt. Bethel had the chance to recognize 5 outstanding members of the graduating senior class with scholarships at Sunday’s Baccalaureate Service. Please take a moment to read about just a few of the accomplishments of these children of God, and congratulate them on their accomplishments.

Ladies Scholarship, presented to Addison Combs by Kelly Brumbeloe:

Addison Combs and her family are longtime members of Mt.Bethel. They have been very active in the church for many years. Addison has been involved as a volunteer in multiple ministry areas of the church. She is graduating from Walton High School with 4.1 and will be attending Auburn University majoring in Special Needs Education and Psychology. This young lady’s list of honors and awards are extensive, inside out outside of Mt.Bethel. Reading her application, I was truly impressed but the thing that caught my attention the most was her heart and willingness to be open to the Lord’s calling on her life. One of her teachers expressed how she truly stood out in the classroom as “someone who does the right thing for the right reason”. It was my honor to give the Mt. Bethel Ladies scholarship to Addison Combs.

Mens Scholarships, presented to Collin Young and Blake Yoder by Ben Hornsby:

It is a pleasure to be able to award two scholarships this morning to two outstanding young Christian men. The awards are recognition of their time, gifts, and service to Mt. Bethel and to furthering God’s Kingdom here on earth.

The first scholarship named for the Reverend Robert and Ellen Infinger and in the amount of $2,500 is being awarded to a young man that has worked with confirmation classes and vacation Bible school. He has been a Camp Hope Counselor. He also has served as a Sunday school teen volunteer. During his time in high school, he has made three foreign mission trips. He will be attending Berry College in the Fall. It is truly an honor to present this award to Mr. Collin Young.

The next award, the M. Bethel Men’s scholarship in the amount of $2,000 is going to a young man who has also been a counselor at Camp Hope and Vacation Bible school. He has been a volunteer at The Garden, a shelter for women and children, and has served with M25 homeless ministry. He loves praise music. He will be attending Furman University in the Fall. I am proud to present this award in the name of the men of Mt. Bethel to Mr. Blake Yoder.

Music Ministry Scholarships presented to Patrick Dickerson and Amanda Shepherd by Debbie Pierce:

We are proud to announce that the recipient of this year’s Deborah V. Pierce Scholarship is Amanda Shepherd. Amanda has been a member of Mt. Bethel’s children’s and youth choirs for 15 years. She also served in chime and handbell choirs for 4 years. During her high school years, she has held leadership positions in choir, participated in choir tours and spring break mission trips, and served as a counselor at Camp Hope. In her application essay, Amanda reflected on how not only joining, but also staying, in church choir for 15 years has changed her life. She believes that her choir experience has taught her to slow down and listen for God’s word and way for her life. Those who recommended Amanda for this scholarship describe her as a spiritual leader whose enthusiasm and passion are contagious and through whom Christ’s light always shines.

We are proud to announce that the recipient of this year’s Carol Jean Leach Scholarship is Patrick Dickerson. Patrick has been a member of the High School Handbell Choir and Church Orchestra for 2 years. He also has served in the High School Choir, participated in the Adult Handbell Choir in our annual Patriotic Concert, and been involved in other church mission activities including Habitat for Humanity. In his application essay, Patrick shared that he has grown immensely, both musically and spiritually, through his participation in the Handbell Ministry. He believes that being a member of this Ministry has given him another way, in addition to singing and being a percussionist, to praise and worship God through music. Those who recommended Patrick for this Scholarship describe him as a faithful and gifted leader and musician who is responsible, dedicated, supportive, and respectful of others.

Many more pictures are viewable in the Spring iPraise Concert album.

What a great job our weePraise and iPraise singers and ringers did last Wednesday in their final concert for the year! In the midst of stormy weather, they were a spot of sunshine.

weePraise sang their hearts out. Learning the books of the New Testament was a real challenge for them…and they nailed it! Awesome!

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade chime and bell ringers have come so far since beginning this fall. We’re so proud of them!

And iPraise: your presentation of Under God’s Sea in 3-D was so much fun! The audience donned their 3-D glasses and you took them on an undersea adventure.

Some of the scriptures and bible stories that have stayed with me the longest, are ones that I learned through song as a child in choir. I hope that the words of these songs will stick with these kids forever. Our last song, “Call on Jesus” says, “Call on Jesus and ask Him in your heart; follow in His footsteps and make a brand new start.” What a simple, but important message made all the more special because of the joyful faces and sweet voices of our wonderful iPraise children.

Check out our pictures and see all the fun we had! And then…sign up for iPraise! We’ll begin registration this summer and would love to share the joy of worship through music with every child at Mt. Bethel.
